All is good...

A small update on how things are going!

PERSONAL LOGS

3/27/20263 min read

I'm writing this post at a normal hour, unlike the last one which was 5 in the morning. Still, my sleep schedule is very much ruined as I stayed up most nights and ended up sleeping less than 3 hours on some occasions. Fortunately, not all nights were like this. I did my best...

So, first, good news! I finished having my finals and now I only have my thesis left to do, and although the university is not really strict with it, I want to do it properly...

I worked there as a professor and dealt with incompetent people as well as bureaucracy and a terrible educational plan students are forced to learn. Useless knowledge that nobody gets nothing from teach and learning that. I taught whatever I believed was better for my students, not caring about what they'd say or think towards the institution I worked in. I received my share of critiques, but I managed to fulfill my objective and found lovely people along the way, especially my now close friend Delfina. We'll be working together in projects soon, and I really hope the best for us in Coffee Cat Studios.

This is my passion; I really want this to work out...

Alright... welcome back! Here's a small update on everything, specifically on my life and how's development going... all is good!

disclaimer: this picture is AI-enhanced, please don't expect the game to look like that... I just added this to fill this space with something "chill"

Status

I'm advancing at a steady pace with documentation and development. I wanted to create a public Trello that allowed me to share with you all the advancements, but it's hard as the scope of the project is the scope of the framework as well.

I will keep on posting updates as I advance on the game. Right now, I'm working on the final important systems of the framework.

Once I'm finished with the design document, I'll be able to better organize my work and my efforts. I have multiple open flanks and taking care of them all at the same time is the same as nothing (kinda). I mean it is progress after all, but it feels slower and end up having less things to show.

I'm working on the map (adding vegetation, functionalities, etc.). I'm happy to know that all these efforts will allow me to develop future games way faster. I literally have everything sorted out in categories depending and in a very-organized folder structure.

Someday, I might show this to the world. My idea was initially to be able to sell licenses to developers so that they can use this advanced framework... we'll see.

Thesis?

My hypothesis is not that complex: "XR development is limited by hardware, not by creative power". Basically, means that if it was possible, we'd have "Matrix-level" simulations.

It also serves as a critique to the usage of technology in an irresponsible way. For example, using AI as a way to save money, which itself is not wrong, but if you, as a company, intend on relying on a tool to replace people just because... something is not right.

Anyways, that's not the point (I'll be publishing something in these personal blogs regarding AI) ... the point was that I will be developing a simple XR experience that shows the limits we have, and how we have certain "workarounds" (optimization techniques) that allow us to circumvent that limitation in exchange of immersion in some cases.

I'll be publishing this app mainly on the Meta XR Store and in other free platforms too. I want to build a simple Personal Hub, with a few simple features. It's a concept but if I find it useful for more things than just presenting my thesis, then I'll continue its development.

Next steps

My plan is to create the Steam page for Vigilum next month (April)... so I must hurry!

  1. The main focus is finishing the documentation so that I have a clear direction and an exact scope to follow.

  2. Then, the map will be taken care of; vegetation, details and everything required for the gameplay to flow normally

    1. I already made like 3 iterations of the map; the current one is the final one.

  3. Finally, all remaining scripts of the framework will be completed and, after that, the game's scripts.

And that would be all! Then I'll have to use that base I built to speed up the development of Deep Space and Inheritance.

Deep Space will start development probably in May, or maybe later. It will be a CCS production so two people working on the project, and I intend on doing the voice acting. I don't want to use AI for voices, I'll give it a shot, if people don't like it well, I shall retire then.

:')

And that is all for now. All is going well. I must hurry as I want to create the Steam page for Vigilum in April. It is expensive for me, almost 10% of my salary, but it will be all worth it.

Thank you for supporting, for reading, for being here. I hope you and I the best of the best. See you in another update!
